3 Easy To Cook Snack Recipes for Shravan

Shravan is regarded as the holy month of the Hindus in India. This is because of the countless festivals celebrated in the Shravan month. The month is the fifth month in the solar calendar starting somewhere in late July and ending somewhere in the third week of August. The common festivals that come in this month are Nag Panchami, Raksha Bandhan, Narali Purnima, Gokulashtami and Avani Avittam. In this month, the Maharashtrians go vegan so here are some quick snack recipes for the fasting month of Shravan.

1. Farali Kebab

This is a simple and yummy Farali Kebab, a modification of the famous Punjabi snack for the month of Shravan. Working mothers can now prepare fun snacks even in Shravan all in a jiffy!

Key Ingredients:

  • 4 Raw bananas (boiled and grated)
  • 4 tbsp Roasted peanuts (coarse ground)
  • 3 Green chillies (chopped finely)
  • 2 tbsp Cilantro (chopped finely)
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper Powder
  • ¼ cup Rajgira Flour
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Salt to taste

Method of Preparation:

Mix together raw bananas, crushed peanuts, green chillies, salt and Cilantro and shape them like Kebabs (cylindrical). Dip them in the Rajgira flour and deep fry in a wok.

2. Farali Bhajiya

Farali Bhajiya is yet another tempting recipe for the fasting people, a quick vegetarian snack.

Key Ingredients:

  • ½ Cup Rajgira Flour
  • ½ Cup Singhara Flour
  • 1 tsp chopped green chilli
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 2 tbsp Cilantro (chopped finely)
  • 3 tbsp sabudana (soaked)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

Method of Preparation:

Mix all the ingredients (except oil) in a bowl until a proper consistency of the batter is achieved. Heat oil in a wok. Drop spoonfuls of batter to check the oil heat. Once the oil is heated, deep fry the yummy Bhajiyas.

3. Coconut Balls

Coconut balls is a sweet snack that can be prepared in a matter of minutes. So here is the recipe for this unique delight.

Key Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup desiccated coconut or coconut powder
  • ¼ Cup coconut powder for coating
  • ½ Cup condensed milk
  • ¼ tsp Cardamom Powder

Method of Preparation: 

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients listed about. Divide the dough into 10 equal portions shaped like balls. Dip it in coconut powder. Place the balls in a refrigerator to harden. Enjoy!
